How we handle your information โ including the most sensitive kind, surveillance footage. Written plainly. For the architecture and security detail behind this, see our Trust & privacy page.
Nasugn Vigil ("Vigil", "we", "us") is a cloud CCTV service operated by Nasugn Pty Ltd (ABN 23 699 435 366; ACN 699 435 366), Melbourne, Australia. This policy explains how we handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). It covers the Vigil web console, API, and the Nasugn Vigil mobile app.
For the video your cameras capture, you (our customer) are the controller and Vigil acts as your service provider, processing that footage on your instructions to store it, stream it back to you, and run motion/person/vehicle detection. You are responsible for operating your cameras lawfully โ including signage/notice and audio-recording obligations under the surveillance-device, listening-device and workplace-surveillance laws in your state or territory.
To provide the service: store and stream your footage, run detection, send you alerts (SMS/WhatsApp/email/push), manage your subscription, provide support, keep the service secure, and meet legal obligations. We do not sell your personal information or your footage, and we do not use your footage to build or train facial-recognition or people-profiling products.
Your footage (live, recordings, thumbnails, clips) is stored and served from AWS Sydney (ap-southeast-2) and does not leave the region for storage or playback. It's served over HTTPS/TLS via expiring signed links, never a public URL. See Trust & privacy for detail.
Recordings are retained for up to 12 months by default and then deleted automatically; you can delete recordings, cameras, sites or your whole account at any time. Account and billing records are kept only as long as needed for the service and legal/accounting obligations.
We share personal information only with the service providers who help us run Vigil, under contract and for these purposes only:
We may also disclose information if required by law. We do not otherwise disclose your footage to third parties.
We protect your information with in-region storage, encryption in transit, expiring signed playback links, per-user authentication, and least-privilege access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but if a data breach likely to cause serious harm occurs, we will act under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme and notify affected customers and the OAIC as required.
You can access and correct your information, export your footage, and request erasure โ most of this you can do yourself in the console (Settings), or by contacting us. To make a request or raise a privacy concern, email privacy@nasugn.com. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
Vigil is a business/consumer security tool and is not directed at children. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children through the service.
We may update this policy as the service evolves. We'll change the "last updated" date above and, for material changes, let you know.
